KIMONO FASHION PARADE

In Osaka we watched a kimono fashion parade followed by a photo opportunity with a 'trainee' geisha. As tradition goes, single girls wore a sash with a rounded protruding bustle at the back. Married girls wore a flat one. The reason behind this, apparently, was so that fathers could tell if their daughters had been on their backs during their evening out on the town. It is supposedly extremely difficult to take a kimono off and put it back on again by oneself. So, once on, it was usually on for the duration.
