Whooo hooooo!!! I’ve done it again. This time I’ve sung kareoke without being drunk. It appears that Kareoke is a national pastime in Japan. My son, David, is hooked on it. He and his girlfriend, Mayu, go regularly to one of the kareoke bars where they book a private kareoke room from midnight to whenever with drinks included for $10. I guess it beats watching soapies.
After warning everyone that what they were about to hear was going to be pretty bad, I picked out some great Dean Martin, Abba and Billy Joel favourites and did my bit on the mike. I had my audience cringing in their seats but I was having a ball. Peter was reluctant to partake until he succumbed to the pressure and joined in with an harmonious rendition of ’76 Trombones’ (can’t believe they had this one on the list!!!). After a couple of hours, a couple of pizzas and several beers delivered via room service, and $176.00 later, we called it a night. I must say it felt good not having to inflict the pain on to a wider audience whilst testing out the ol’ vocal chords.
